REMINDER: Opening burning is prohibited in Shenandoah
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Borough and the Fire Department remind residents that open burning of any kind is not permitted in town.
Council passed an ordinance banning burning in town in 2015 and regulating the use of grills for cooking.
According to that ordinance, outdoor fires and fire pits are not permitted without a special burn permit from the borough fire chief.
The ordinance also prohibits the use of a charcoal or propane grill inside a building, on a porch, or within 10 feet of a building. Grills are also not permitted on a public sidewalk.
Violation of the ordinance could come with a fine up to $1,000, court costs, and a jail term of no more than 30 days.
Previously, the fire department has been called to respond to open fires set by residents to burn trash or other refuse.
