SHENANDOAH – Scattered showers and downpours led to a sparse crowd and the cancellation of bingo and other games during the first day of the Rescue, Hook, and Ladder block party in Shenandoah Friday.
Though, all other aspects of the event, held in the unit block of East Coal Street, continued as planned, including the fire truck parade, which drew apparatus from across the region.
Attendees contended with the weather to pick up bleenies, pierogies, and other food items.
The fire truck parade made its way through the borough beginning at 7:30pm, parading the west end, Turkey Run, and the east end before returning to the fire station at Coal and Main Streets. Participating in the parade were fire companies from Mount Carmel, Nuremberg-Weston, Sheppton, Girardville, among others.
The block party continues through Sunday. On Saturday, food will be sold from 1pm to 10pm, and on Sunday from 4pm to 10pm. Bingo begins at 6pm each night, and a horseshoe tournament will be held on Saturday.
