Quick work by neighbors keeps brush fire at bay

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Robert Matta and John Petritsch use a garden hose to keep a brush fire in check as Shenandoah Heights firefighters arrive in Weston Place on Nov. 8, 2024.

WESTON PLACE – A neighborhood effort kept a brush fire in check when a lawn mower caught fire here Friday.

Firefighters were called to Radio Station Road around 2pm Friday for a reported brush fire.

A lawn mower had caught fire on the Schreppel property at 29 Radio Station Road, catching the brush between there and the Matta property at 21 Radio Station Road.

At least two garden hoses were stretched, including one from the Petritsch residence across the street, as well as a fire extinguisher.

The quick work by neighbors handled the lawn mower fire and kept the brush fire from burning into the dense woodlands behind the homes.

Heights Fire Co. firefighters arrived and finished the job.

No injuries were reported.
