PUC plans hearings over propose Aqua, Pennsylvania American merger
HARRISBURG – Two major water companies which serve a large portion of our area are looking to merge and regulators have public hearings planned to hear from you.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has set up a series of in-person and telephone hearings to gather input abut the proposed merger between American Water and Essential Utilities.
They are the parent companies for Pennsylvania American Water, which serves Frackville, and Aqua Pennsylvania, which serves Shenandoah, Girardville, Mount Carmel, and the surrounding areas.
The in-person hearings are no closer than an hour away, with the nearest set for Tuesday, April 21 in Hummelstown. That will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1pm and 6pm.
Another hearing is set for Thursday, April 30 in Scranton and the Radisson Scranton on Lackawanna Avenue. That will also be at 1pm and 6pm.

According to the application filed with the PUC, American Water and its subsidiaries provide water and wastewater services to 3.5 million customer connections, or more than 14 million people in 14 states, including Pennsylvania. Essential provides water, wastewater, and natural gas services to approximately 5.5 million people in Pennsylvania and nine other states.
