PSP: SUV struck, rolled passing vehicle, fled scene
MAHANOY TWP. – A woman is in serious condition and a man is on the run accused of wrecking said woman on Interstate 81 Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened on I-81 Southbound in the area of milepost 129.5 around 5:30pm.
State Police at Frackville said a 2002 Subaru Outback was headed south in the passing lane of I-81, passing a black mid-size SUV, possibly a Chevrolet.
That SUV veered into the left lane, striking the Subaru, which veered into the east shoulder and back into the left lane, when it was struck again by the SUV.
Troopers said that impact caused the Subaru to roll several times, ejecting and seriously injuring the driver.
The SUV driver stopped at the scene and briefly approached a passenger from the Subaru before getting back into his car and fleeing southbound.
The driver of the Subaru was flown from the scene via air medical to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. Her two passengers were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill by ground for treatment of minor injuries.
State Police are seeking information on that SUV and its operator. The vehicle is described as a black in color medium size SUV, possibly a Chevrolet, with damage to the driver’s side front bumper and fender area.
The driver is described as a 30 to 40-year-old white male with black or brown hair, wearing a black collared shirt with a logo on the left chest, and dark pants.
