PSP: Pursuit was for traffic violation, began in Luzerne

TURKEY RUN – Details remain few regarding a police chase that made its way in and around Shenandoah Borough yesterday.
Trooper Anthony Petroski, public information officer for the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N, Hazleton, provided a statement to the Sentinel Tuesday regarding the pursuit.
“The vehicle pursuit was for a traffic violation, the vehicle ultimately came to a stop and the individual was taken into custody without further incident,” Petroski said. “PSP Frackville assisted since it started in PSP Hazleton’s area and traversed into their area.”
Troopers at the scene Monday said a media release would be issued by the Hazleton barracks of Troop N, but Petroski did not have one available at midday Tuesday. The Hazleton barracks of Troop N covers lower Luzerne County and part of Carbon County.
The pursuit came to a conclusion outside Vito Rinaldi Chrysler in Mahanoy Township, a few yards from the Shenandoah borough line at Turkey Run, when police officers from several agencies surrounded a black Pontiac Grand Prix. Agencies at the scene included East Union Township, West Mahanoy Township, Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Frackville, among others.
Witnesses said they spotted the pursuit along Route 924 leaving Brandonville towards Shenandoah. As the pursuit made its way through Shenandoah, bystanders captured the pursuit flying by on the Gold Star Highway at the south end of downtown.
A resident on the southside’s Ring doorbell camera captured the pursuit on South West Street, turning onto Rock Street.
At the pursuit’s conclusion, a man was taken away in handcuffs and a dog was removed from the Pontiac, which had significant rear-end damage.
