NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a compilation of various police incidents reported by the Pennsylvania State Police in northern Schuylkill County and the surrounding areas.
New Philly man locked up after punching girlfriend
A New Philadelphia man is lodged at the Schuylkill County Prison after state troopers say he punched his girlfriend in the face and threw her to the ground.
The incident occurred just before 11:30am Wednesday at a home on Klim Avenue in New Philadelphia, when troopers were called to the home for a domestic incident.
Troopers found that Sean Sullivan, 36, and his 32-year-old girlfriend from Minersville, got into a fight.
In the course of the fight, Sullivan struck the woman in the face and threw her to the ground.
Troopers apprehended Sullivan nearby and he was arraigned at district court on simple assault and harassment charges.
Bail was set at $25,000 and, unable to post it, he was committed to county prison.
Andreas resident injured in Walker Township crash
Two from Andreas were taken to a Coaldale hospital after a crash in Walker Township on Tuesday.
The crash happened around 7:00pm when Ruth Wellington, 38, of Andreas was headed northbound on Valley Road in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee.
Wellington lost control of the vehicle around a right hand turn, leaving their lane of travel and striking a parked 2003 Dodge Durango.
After the strike, the vehicle spun 180 degrees before coming to a final rest.
The vehicle sustained significant damage to its front end, and the two occupants, Wellington and a 14-year-old boy from Andreas, were taken via Tamaqua Ambulance to St. Luke’s – Coaldale. Wellington, troopers said, suffered a possible neck injury and was wearing their seatbelt.
The parked vehicle was unoccupied and sustained damage to its rear bumper and lift gate.
Delaware County man stabbed at SCI-Coal Township
A 20-year-old male from Delaware County was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after state police say he was stabbed by two from southeastern Pennsylvania.
The incident happened last Wednesday, Feb. 12, around 8:30pm, State Police at Stonington said, when Chisem Manigo, 23, of Philadelphia, and Christian Espinosa, 24, of Columbia allegedly stabbed the 20-year-old from Chester.
Both alleged actors are facing aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment charges.
TV, bathroom items swiped from Hazle Township motel
State Police at Hazleton are investigating a reported theft in Hazle Township between Hazleton and McAdoo, said to have occurred on Feb. 7.
Troopers were called to the Mountain Laurel Motel at 1039 South Church Street, on Feb. 7 around 1:00pm, after a 32-inch TV, wall mirror, bathroom vanity light, toilet paper holder, towel rack, shower head, and shower rod and curtain were swiped.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact PSP-Hazleton at 570-459-3890.
Drifton man charged for trespassing on coal mine lands
A 56-year-old Drifton man is facing trespassing charges after he was found on the property of the Jeddo Coal Company this past Sunday.
Jeddo Coal Company security guards found the man, Ronald Hoffman, 56, on the property just before 4:00pm.
Troopers from the Hazleton barracks were summoned to the scene, and charges were filed.
Minersville woman facing DUI charges for driving high on marijuana through Gilberton
A Minersville woman is facing charges after troopers found her high on marijuana after a traffic stop in Gilberton on January 27.
Troopers from the Frackville barracks were running speed enforcement in Mahanoy Plane section when a dark colored Mercury SUV was found to be speeding.
Troopers stopped the SUV at the Gilberton underpass, and were encountered by a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, while the driver displayed signs of impairment.
Consent to search the vehicle was obtained, troopers said, and they found a small amount of marijuana in a container.
Leessence Elaine Brown, 22, of Minersville, the driver, is facing misdemeanor driving under the influence charges as well as summary traffic offenses for the incident.
Girardville pair arrested for drug possession
Two from Girardville are facing possession charges after a reported overdose in the borough on Feb. 9.
Troopers were called to 146 West Ogden Avenue around 3:00pm where a man was reported to be overdosing on the sidewalk. The man, identified as 55-year-old Theodore Stang, of Girardville, was treated with Narcan by first responders and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill and was found in possession of a controlled substance.
Another man, David Brennan, 59, returned to the scene possessing a controlled substance as well. Possession charges are being filed against both, troopers said.
Ashland man falls asleep at the wheel, strikes rock wall in Barry Township
An Ashland man was uninjured after fell asleep at the wheel and drove up a rock wall in Barry Township, troopers said.
Troopers from the Schuylkill Haven barracks were called to the crash on Sunbury Road, Route 901, in the area of Melocheck Lane around 7:00am Monday, Feb. 17.
Jacob Clark, 20, of Ashland was travelling along Route 901 in a 2010 Kia Rio when he fell asleep at the wheel.
Troopers say he then crossed over into oncoming lanes and drove up a rock wall. The vehicle had disabling damage and an airbag was deployed.
No injuries were reported, and troopers were assisted by Ashland EMS and Lavelle Fire.
