DEER LAKE – A Shenandoah woman stopped to help the victims of a three vehicle crash on Route 61 near here and had her car stolen by a 19-year-old Orwigsburg woman, according to state troopers.
State Police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident happened around 2am Sunday morning on Centre Turnpike (Route 61) near Pine View Lane in West Brunswick Township, near Deer Lake.
Three vehicles had crashed and a 51-year-old Shenandoah woman pulled over in her 2020 Jeep Cherokee to assist.
Troopers said 19-year-old Alani Schwoyer, of Orwigsburg, took the Jeep and fled before troopers arrived.
They found the vehicle and Schwoyer at a nearby residence and she was promptly arrested and arraigned.
Details on the crash itself, or if Schwoyer were a party to the crash, were not available Tuesday afternoon.
She is facing felony theft, felony receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor DUI charges. She was released on recognizance.
A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 12 before Magisterial District Judge Andrew Serina in Orwigsburg.
