PSP: Dead pit bull wrapped in garbage bag, air mattress dumped in Hazle Twp.
HAZLE TWP., Luzerne County – State Police at Hazleton are investigating a case of animal cruelty, after a dead pit bull was found just beyond Hazleton city limits this afternoon.
State Troopers from the Hazleton barracks were called to the area of Hayes and East 13th Streets around 1:30pm Wednesday for a report of a deceased dog.
Troopers said the dog was found wrapped in two garbage bags, a blanket, and a flattened air mattress.
Troopers said they believe the dog suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
A neighborhood canvas, troopers said, leads them to believe the dog was dumped last night, Tuesday, April 28 between 8:00pm and 8:30pm by an unknown vehicle.
The dog is a light brown American Pit Bull Terrier, possibly a mix breed, with white markings on the chest, feet, and paws. The dog was taken to the Wilkes-Barre SPCA for further examination.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Christopher Tobias at the PSP-Hazleton barracks at 570-459-3890.
