Prisoners at FCI-Schuylkill sentenced for contraband offenses
SCRANTON – Two inmates at the federal prison in Butler Township were sentenced for contraband offenses, the federal authorities announced.
Charles Epps, 27, formerly of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty last Wednesday to a charge of possession of contraband at the Federal Correctional Institution – Schuylkill.
U.S. Attorney Gerard Karam said Epps was caught with a “shank,” a dangerous prison-made weapon, in May.
He was in federal prison serving a sentence from Washington for attempted assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. That sentence lasts until 2025.
For the contraband charge, he was sentenced to serve an additional six months in prison, consecutive to his previous sentence.
Xyvaion Lawrence, 23, was also sentenced this week on a contraband charge.
Karam said that, in November of 2022, he was caught with a 6-inch homemade knife hidden in his waistband.
He was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison.
