SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man is facing charges after a domestic incident in which borough police say he assaulted and threatened the life of his pregnant girlfriend.
According to Shenandoah Police, officers were dispatched around 9:30am Monday to an apartment in the 200 block of West Centre Street for reports of a domestic disturbance where a female was heard yelling for help.
Police determined Matthew Strefan Galarza, 23, of Shenandoah, assaulted his 26-year-old pregnant girlfriend by pushing her against a wall and choking her.
“He threatened her life and stated he wasn’t afraid to go to jail,” Chief George Carado said in a release. “The female tried to leave several times but Galarza blocked her exit.”
Galarza faces charges of strangulation, terroristic threats and related charges, and was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and taken to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 bail.
