Police: Pottsville man led chase at over 100mph through William Penn
LOST CREEK – A Pottsville man is facing charges after township police say he took off at over 100mph through the villages west of Shenandoah and into the borough itself.
Logan Kanezo, 28, of 521 East Arch Street, was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor fleeing along with several traffic violations, including reckless driving.
According to the criminal complaint filed by West Mahanoy Township Police Patrolman Theodore Buriak, Jr., the officer was monitoring traffic at Route 54 and Colorado Road in Lost Creek around 1:30am Monday morning.
A black SUV headed east on Route 54 missed the left-hand turn towards Shenandoah and crashed into a yard. Buriak activated his emergency lights and the SUV fled towards Shenandoah at a high rate of speed.
At one point in William Penn, the pursuit eclipsed 100mph.
Borough Police spotted the vehicle near Vine Street and shortly after, Mahanoy City Police stopped the SUV on the east end of East Centre Street.
The SUV, a Toyota Rav4, had front end damage and was towed from the scene.
Kanezo, Buriak wrote, told police that he had fled because he had a suspended license. He was briefly taken into custody and then taken home.
A preliminary hearing is set for August 22 in Shenandoah.
