Police Log, 5/1/2023

NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a collection of police incidents reported by local law enforcement agencies in our region.

Disorderly Conduct

SHENANDOAH – A 57-year-old West Centre Street man was cited for disorderly conduct after police said he had been blaring music from his home.

Shenandoah Police said a resident reported that Pedro Batista, 57, was playing music excessively loud and that music could be heard from the nearby resident’s house around 5pm Sunday.

Batista was cited for disorderly conduct.

Public Drunkenness

SHENANDOAH – A Gilberton man was cited for public drunkenness after an incident around 3:30pm Wednesday in the 300 block of South Main Street.

Shenandoah Police said Randall Tyson, 78, of Main Street in Gilberton, had left Mulligan’s and fallen onto the sidewalk, striking his head.

Tyson was treated by Shenandoah Ambulance and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said Tyson was cited for public drunkenness.

Strangulation

MILLERSBURG, Dauphin County – A Mount Carmel man is facing felony strangulation charges for an incident in April.

State Police at Lykens said Brian Thomas, 42, of Mount Carmel is accused of strangling a 40-year-old Millersburg woman in a domestic violence incident.

Thomas was charged with strangulation, simple assault, and harassment and bail was set at $10,000 unsecured with a no contact order.

Underage Drinking

GIRARDVILLE – A 19-year-old Girardville woman was cited for underage possession of alcohol early last month.

The State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said Friday that the citation came from a minor patrol on April 1.

Troopers said Madelyn Niedzwiecki, 19, of Girardville, was found to be in possession of alcohol and subsequently cited.

Vehicle Accdent

LEWISTOWN – An 18-year-old Tamaqua man suffered minor injuries and was cited for a crash in this Walker Township village Saturday.

The crash happened around 5pm at 614 Valley Road.

State Police at Frackville said Jacob Demarco, 18, of Tamaqua, was headed south on Valley Road and was driving “too fast for conditions,” losing control in a left-hand turn, striking an embankment, and rolling his 2008 Suzuki SX4.

Demarco suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Tamaqua Ambulance.

Troopers said he was cited for failing to drive at a safe speed.

Vehicle Accident

SHENANDOAH – No one was hurt in a two-car crash at Main and Washington Streets in town earlier last month.

State Police at Frackville said Sunday that the crash happened around 11:30am April 14.

John Kuczynski, 49, of Zion Grove, was headed northbound on Main Street in a 2008 Dodge pickup and was stopped for the red light at Washington Street.

Troopers said Barbara Bisco, 71, of Shenandoah, was also headed north in a 2018 Toyota Corolla and “was unable to come to a stop.” She struck Kucynski’s pickup, causing disabling damage to her sedan.

Troopers said Bisco appeared to have a medical issue which resulted in the crash.

No citations were filed, and state police were assisted by Shenandoah EMS and Shenandoah Fire.

Vehicle Accident

GINTHERS – Two people were taken to local hospitals after a crash in Rush Township in April.

State Police at Frackville said Sunday that the crash happened around 7pm April 16 at Claremont Avenue and Fairview Streets in the Ginthers section of Rush Township.

Troopers said Mark Reinhart, 68, of Conyngham, was in the left turn lane northbound on Claremont, trying to turn onto Fairview Street in a 2007 Toyota Yaris.

Allen Bodnar, 27, of McAdoo was headed south on Claremont in a 2019 Nissan Rogue when Reinhart pulled out in front of Bodnar, causing the collision.

Reinhart’s vehicle spun 180 degrees and came to a rest in the center median of the highway while Bodnar’s vehicle struck a utility pole.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and both were taken to local hospitals.

Reinhart was cited for the crash, troopers said.

Vehicle Accident

KELAYRES – A McAdoo man was injured in a vehicle accident in this Kline Township village in April.

Troopers said Sunday that the crash happened around 4:30pm April 16 at 5th and Center Streets.

Gerard Donadi, 70, of McAdoo, was headed south on 5th Street at a slow rate of speed on a 1998 Kawasaki motorcycle.

Donadi fell sideways on the bike and struck his head off the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet.

Donadi was taken to a Hazleton area hospital for treatment of injuries and issued a warning.

Vehicle Accident

TUSCARORA – A Hazleton man escaped injury in a crash near this Schuylkill Township village Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:30pm at 40 Catawissa Street when Jean Dorico-Garcia, 30, of Hazleton, was headed south on Catawissa in a 1996 Toyota.

Troopers said he lost control of the vehicle due to rainy conditions and struck a utility pole.

He was cited for the crash, troopers said.

Burglary

GIRARDVILLE – State Police are investigating a burglary on East Mahanoy Avenue.

Troopers said they were called to the area on April 27 around 6pm.

Unknown actors, they said, removed multiple items from the residence.

No further information was provided.

Theft

HOMETOWN – State Police at Frackville are investigating the theft of cooking oil in this Rush Township village.

Troopers said Sunday that they were called to Two Kings Pizza on April 14 around 2:30pm.

Used cooking oil was swiped from a storage container, worth about $180.

Retail Theft

RINGTOWN – A Sheppton man is facing a retail theft charge, accused of swiping a $5 Kingsford Quick Light fire starter.

Troopers said they were called to the Ringtown Dollar General around 11:30am Thursday.

Store employees said they knew who the alleged thief was and had a license plate number.

Troopers said Michael Eby, 44, of Sheppton, had left the store without paying for a $5 fire starter. He was arrested at his home.

Vehicle Accident

BARNESVILLE – No one was injured in a two car crash in this Ryan Township village a little over a week ago.

State Police at Frackville said the crash happened around noon on April 22 at Route 54 and Crystal Lane.

Troopers said Daniel Kerbacher, 72, of Berwick, was sitting along the roadside of Route 54 in a 2006 Toyota Avalon as Richard Light, 75, of Barnesville, was approaching in a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox.

Kerbacher pulled out in front of Light, causing the collision, troopers said.

No injuries were reported.

Criminal Mischief

HAZLE TOWNSHIP – A 40-year-old Drums man is accused of damaging a political sign on South Church Street Thursday.

State Police at Hazleton said they were called to the area of 899 South Church Street around 3pm.

Troopers said Ronald P. Lemoine Jr caused damage to a sign for Hazleton mayoral candidate Cindee Deluca.

Lemoine is facing a criminal mischief citation for the incident.

Burglary

BANKS TOWNSHIP – State Police at Hazleton are investigating a burglary at a McAdoo area business.

Troopers said Sunday that they were called to Haulmark Industries at 6 Banks Avenue in Banks Township, Carbon County for a reported burglary.

Troopers said three unknown suspects burglarized the unsecured building.

Several power tools and wire were swiped from the manufacturing floor.

Vehicle Accident

KULPMONT – One person was injured in a vehicle accident here Saturday night.

State Police at Stonington said the crash happened just before midnight on Pine Street in Kulpmont.

Troopers said Wayne Bryan, 49, of Kulpmont, was headed south on Pine Street in a 2010 Acura TL when he struck two parked cars.

His vehicle suffered disabling damage and had to be towed.

Bryan was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
