Police investigating fatal Gilberton crash
GILBERTON – One man was killed in a vehicle accident on the Gold Star Highway here Friday afternoon.
Frackville Police say the crash happened around 12:30pm when a white vehicle, travelling southbound on Route 924 at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and dropped off the side of the road.
The vehicle descended an embankment, coming to a rest in the Maizeville section of Gilberton Borough.
The driver was pronounced dead ad the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Andrew Szczyglak, and his name has not been released, pending notification of family members.
Frackville Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact them at 570-874-0238.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Gilberton’s Continental, Mahanoy Plane’s American, and Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Companies, as well as Shenandoah Ambulance, Ashland Police, Shenandoah Police, West Mahanoy Township Police, and Mahanoy City Police.
