Police: Fleeing man ditches motorcycle, swipes bicycle, breaks through house, pretends to sleep on couch
GIRARDVILLE – A man is facing a slew of charges after a pursuit around 8:00pm Friday night.
Girardville Police said that, around 8:10pm, officers attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on Main Street in the borough.
Upon doing so, the motorcyclist, later identified as Christopher Buck, looked back at pursuing officers and fled, driving in oncoming lanes on Main Street, bound for Ashland.
On the way to Ashland, officers said Buck exceeded 90mph, entering Ashland before fleeing onto a side road.
In Ashland, Buck abandoned the motorcycle in the 1700 block of Walnut, fleeing on foot. Girardville Police lost sight of the man between houses, though an Ashland officer intercepted him and deployed his taser. The man was hit by at least three taser probes, police said.
Despite that, Buck continued fleeing, eluding both pursuing officers before breaking through the door of a home in the 1700 block of Spruce.
A block down the road, in the 1600 block, Buck swiped a bicycle, riding it down to the unit block of South 7th, where he abandoned the bike and ran into a home across the street. Off-duty officers from the Schuylkill County Sheriffs Office and Pennsylvania State Police witnessed this and alerted the communications center.
The off-duty officers relayed to the pursuing officers that they had surveyed all exits and the man had not left the home. Officers knocked on the door of the home, and, with no answer, they made forcible entry and found Buck pretending to sleep on the living room couch.
Officers had Buck stand up, when they found two taser probes, one in his sweatshirt and another at his feet. He also had marks on the back of his neck and his back from the probes.
Officers took Buck into custody on charges of reckless endangerment, fleeing and eluding, failure to yield, driving with a suspended license for DUI, possession of drugs, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, theft by unlawful taking, and traffic violations.
He was arraigned and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 bail.
Assisting Ashland and Girardville Police were officers from Frackville, Shenandoah, and Butler Township.
