Police: Borough man set fire to mattresses on West Street porch
SHENANDOAH – A West Washington Street man is in Schuylkill County Prison, accused of torching mattresses on the porch of a North West Street home Thursday.
According to Shenandoah Police, officers were called to 11 North West Street around 8pm for the incident.
Police said mattresses were aflame and had spread to the porch roof of 11 North West Street.
The incident was caught on video, and officers identified a suspect: John Mayeresky, of 151 West Washington Street.
Police said that, when they visited his house to speak to him, he was wearing the same clothing as in the video.
Mayeresky was taken into custody and faces charges of arson, risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.
He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $75,000 straight cash bail.
