Police: After noise complaint, resident cranks up music, locks door on officers

MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City woman is facing obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct charges after police were called twice for loud music and shut the door on responding officers.

Johanni Martinez, 54, of East Mahanoy Street, was charged Monday by Mahanoy City Police Patrolman Jordan Smith.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Smith, police were called to Martinez’s home Friday evening first around 8pm where the residents were told to turn the music down.

Around 10:45pm, police were called again. This time, Smith wrote that the music could be heard a block away.

When police arrived, the music stopped and Martinez came outside and officers told her of the complaint and asked her to produce identification.

She told police there was no music “and pretended to not know what music was or what the word meant,” Smith wrote.

Police again asked her to show identification and, instead, she went inside the home and locked the door. She refused to acknowledge police for the next ten minutes.

She is facing a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice and a summary charge of disorderly conduct.

A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 5 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker.
