FRACKVILLE – Springtime means it’s time for baseball.

Frackville Little League kicked off the season Saturday morning with a parade and opening ceremony.

The league has 135 registered players this year, up from 124 last year, and have added a fourth Majors team.

North Schuylkill 8th-grader Mina Pennypacker sang the national anthem.

The league also took time to recognize a longtime volunteer.

Mike Weremedic became involved in the league as a parent in 2018 with two sons in the league. League officials say he stepped up and volunteered, serving on the league board for five years and serving as Ways and Means Manager.

He was an instrumental part of the installation of the new batting cage and chaired the Thunder on the Mountain tournament.

Weremedic threw the first pitch to his son, Noah, to kick off the season.

The league also recognized numerous sponsors who helped fund facility improvements, including a bathroom project, a $1,000 sponsorship from T-Mobile, MI Windows and Doors installing a new press box window, and TCS Services donating towards a new fencing project.
