GIRARDVILLE – This borough’s Memorial Day service enjoyed a healthy turnout following the annual parade through downtown.

The American Legion Post 309 in Girardville sponsors the event.

Flanked by the Girardville Fire Department, the parade made its way up Main Street, ending on Third Street at the veterans memorial.

The North Schuylkill Band and veterans groups took part as well.

At the service, Joe Wayne remarked that the turnout was much better than last year’s. A speaker gave remarks on the meaning and origin of Taps, and a gun salute and wreath laying remembered those who served.
