PennDOT plans bridge replacement projects on Route 924
BRANDONVILLE – Getting back-and-forth between Shenandoah and Hazleton won’t be so easy in the next few years, once a trio of bridge replacement projects begins.
PennDOT is planning to replace three bridges on Route 924 in the Brandonville area, in the area of Foose Lane and Phinneyville Road.
Officials from the agency will be at the Sept. 2 East Union Township meeting to display plans and hold a presentation on the project specifics. That meeting is at 5:30pm at the township building, 10 East Elm Street, Sheppton.
The project is in the design phase and shovels are expected to hit dirt in the Fall of 2027 and last two construction seasons, wrapping by Fall of 2028.
It involves the replacement of three bridges north of the Phinneyville Road/Foose Lane intersection that cross over tributaries of the Catawissa Creek.
A detour is planned that would take northbound vehicle traffic from Brandonville through Zion Grove via Creek Road and Red Ridge Road, to Nuremberg and back to Sheppton via Nuremberg Mountain Road and vice-versa southbound.
Northbound trucks will be detoured via Route 924 through downtown Shenandoah to Interstate 81 at Frackville, Interstate 81 to the Route 924 exit at Humboldt, and Route 924 back to Sheppton from there and vice-versa southbound.
