Packed house for historical society’s Cooper presentation, part two

SHENANDOAH – It was a capacity crowd for Tuesday night’s presentation at the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society.
The crowd came for part two of Andy Ulicny’s presentation on the history of the recently-demolished former J.W. Cooper Memorial High School.
Thousands of Shenandoah’s own were educated in the substantial building at White and Lloyd Streets from the late teens through 1994.

Tuesday’s continuation picked up in the 1950’s and ran through the school’s closure as a high school in the early 1980’s, closure as an elementary in the early 1990’s, and demolition this year.
Ulicny also included a variety of Shenandoah School District and Shenandoah Valley School District tidbits, including incoming and outgoing superintendents, sports happenings, and renovations of Veterans Memorial Stadium.
