OP-ED: Helping Schuylkill County Families Access Savings on Monthly Water Bills

By Rita Black, Director of Aqua Pennsylvania’s Community Assistance Programs

Managing household expenses can be challenging, and with rising costs, every bit of support counts. That’s why Aqua Pennsylvania is proud to offer our Customer Assistance Program (CAP) to help families in Schuylkill County with their monthly water and wastewater bills.

CAP is designed to help eligible customers reduce their monthly bills with financial assistance. Participants receive a discounted monthly bill, plus a $40 credit towards past-due balances when payments are made. In addition to these benefits, customers enrolled in CAP can access other helpful programs, like our Leak Repair Program and conservation kits and grants from Aqua Aid Pennsylvania, offering even more resources.

We estimate that many households in Schuylkill County qualify for CAP but haven’t applied yet. The program is based on income and household size, and you may be eligible without even realizing it. For example, a family of four with a gross annual income of $64,296 qualifies for CAP.

Applying is simple and quick. Start by visiting the CAP page on our website to learn more about the program and eligibility. From there, you’ll be directed to the Dollar Energy Fund (DEF) website, which manages the application process on Aqua’s behalf. The application only takes a few minutes, and submitting proof of income by email will help speed up the process. Your monthly discounts will appear on your bill within one to two billing cycles.

While Aqua Pennsylvania is also working on infrastructure improvements in your community, like replacing inoperable fire hydrants and identifying lead or galvanized service lines, we know that your everyday needs are just as important. Programs like CAP are designed to provide immediate, meaningful assistance that can make a real difference in your monthly budget. We encourage you to check your eligibility for CAP and to share this information you’re your friends, family, and neighbors in Schuylkill County who might also benefit. A few minutes spent applying could lead to significant savings every month. Apply today and take the first step.
