One staffer remains hospitalized after nursing center fire; cause undetermined
MOUNT CARMEL – One staff member remains hospitalized after Saturday’s fire at a Mount Carmel nursing center, state troopers said Sunday.
The fire broke out just before 9am Saturday at the Mount Carmel Nursing Facility just outside the borough.
According to the State Police at Stonington, three staff members, 12 residents, and five first responders were all treated and released at local hospitals for minor injuries.
Troopers said the fire started in the hallway of the personal care facility atthe nursing center.
One staff member is still in the hospital, troopers said, being treated for smoke inhalation.
A cause of the fire is undetermined, troopers said.
All residents were placed in the care of other facilities.
Many of them are in Shenandoah at the Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center. Donations are being sought for some of their needs.
