One shot with flare gun in HAHS fight; four arrested

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, Luzerne County – Four young adults are facing assault charges after a fight involving them and three male Hazleton Area High School students after school last Tuesday.
According to State Police at Hazleton, the fight occurred just after 3:00pm on Nov. 5 at Mickinley Street and West 20th in Hazle Township.
Troopers arrested four young adults — Luis Arizmendy-Nunez, 22, of Brooklyn, NY; Christhofany Maria, 19, of Hazle Township; Jose Antonio Vargas, 19, of Newark, NJ; and Noberto Polanco-Rodriguez, 19, of Brooklyn — in connection with the incident, which involved three victims.
Multiple victims suffered injuries, troopers said, and Polanco-Rodriguez admitted to them he shot one of the victims with an orange flare gun. Said victim suffered a serious injury to his arm.
Polanco-Rodriguez is facing aggravated assault charges while the other three are facing simple assault charges.
