Oil burner malfunction draws fire response to Mahanoy home

MAHANOY CITY – An oil burner malfunction drew firefighters from this borough to a home in the 1000 block of East Pine Street Friday evening.

Firefighters were called just before 9:00pm for reports of heavy black smoke coming from the chimney of a home at 1037 East Pine.

Fire officials said the chimney is shared by another home at 1039 East Pine, a home which has coal heat.

The cause of the smoke was determined to be an oil burner malfunction at 1037, and most borough firefighters were clear of the scene within about 15 minutes.

Firefighters from all Mahanoy City fire companies responded to the scene along with Mahanoy City EMS.
