October GSAHS talk focuses on early Schuylkill canals

SHENANDOAH – This coming Tuesday, Oct. 7 is the final presentation of the year at the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society.

This month’s talk will focus on the canals of the early days of the anthracite coal industry.

They enabled coal companies to transport Schuylkill County coal to city markets prior to the railroads.

Mark Purcell will be the speaker and he’ll have copies of his recently-published book, too.

This all takes place Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6:30pm at the museum on South Main Street in town.
