Northern Schuylkill native celebrates 100th birthday
POTTSVILLE – A longtime northern Schuylkill resident celebrated a major birthday earlier this month.
Mary Louise (McCormick) Zelonis turned 100 on Sept. 18.
Family members and staff at the Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center celebrated the milestone last week.
A longtime Shenandoah and Mahanoy City resident, her caregiver, Sharlaine Shustack, of Shenandoah, says she is fondly known as “The Bingo Lady”, as she was once able to tell you where Bingo was being played every night of the week. She had her own “spot” on the Bingo bus and table.
She loves to crochet and has made beautiful blankets for family and friends.
She had five children, eight grandchildren, 15 great grand children, and one great great granddaughter.
Zelonis was married to the late John Joseph Zelonis and was one of seven siblings.
