MICQUELYNN KAPUSCHINSKY / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The aurora shines above Shenandoah Borough on Oct. 10, 2024.
SHENANDOAH – Thursday night marked what could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many in the Shenandoah area.
A major solar storm, coupled with crystal clear skies, allowed the northern lights to shine above the Shenandoah and Mahanoy valleys and points all over Pennsylvania.
Social media feeds were flooded with photos of the phenomenon and several people shared photos with the Sentinel from across our area.
The solar storm wasn’t quite as powerful as one that allowed for a spectacular show in many parts of the country in May, though our area was well-covered with clouds at that point. Though, the lights still made a rare overhead appearance over the heart of the anthracite.
Dozens took to the Ringtown Valley Scenic View to catch a glimpse of the show on the horizon as well.
