North Schuylkill Tournament of Bands returns next weekend

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – While they’re a staple of Friday night football games, many don’t realize that Saturdays are when marching bands truly shine.

Throughout the fall, competitions are held across the region to give bands the opportunity to show their skills.

One of those competitions is held in our area and includes all three Sentinel area schools.

Beginning at 5:30pm Saturday, Oct. 14, bands from as far as Lewistown and Montgomery will take to Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium at North Schuylkill.

The event is sanctioned by Tournament of Bands, one of the largest competitive band/indoor organizations in the country. The circuit covers the Mid-Atlantic region, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and parts of neighboring states.

Bands will compete in seven divisions at the North Schuylkill competition, based on the band’s size and level of competition. Classes include the Open class, the traditional competitive arena for experienced groups and staff; the A class, where basic skills and technique are emphasized in the developmental stage, and the Festival class, for non-competitive bands that choose to participate and receive feedback and a rating.
