North Schuylkill notches 2nd in T102 media poll; how our locals fared

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – North Schuylkill is expected to be a contender in the Schuylkill-Colonial League’s Red Division, according to a media and coaches poll conducted by T102 Sports Now.

The Spartans received four first place votes, trailing Northwestern Lehigh with 14 first place votes. Eighteen media representatives from 14 outlets across eastern Pennsylvania cast votes.

The Red Division consists of the largest schools in the cooperative. North Schuylkill finished second in the division last season to Northern Lehigh, who is now in the White division, consisting of medium-to-small schools from the Lehigh Valley area.

The Sentinel participated in the poll for both the Red and Blue divisions.

For the coaches poll, North Schuylkill is third with one first place vote, trailing Northwestern Lehigh and Southern Lehigh.

The other Sentinel coverage area schools — Shenandoah Valley and Mahanoy Area — are in the Blue division this year, which is solely Schuylkill County schools.

Schuylkill Haven earned the top spot in the media poll with 10 first place votes, followed by Minersville with three first place votes. Fourteen votes were cast for the Blue division.

Mahanoy, under Head Coach Dave Holman returning after a hiatus, and Shenandoah Valley, under first year Head Coach Dave Bench, both are in the bottom half of the division polls.

Shenandoah Valley comes in 10th in both, while Mahanoy is 7th in both.
