No injuries four displaced in Tresckow duplex fire
TRESCKOW, Carbon County – Four people are displaced after a house fire in this Banks Township village Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the unit block of South Chestnut Street just before 3pm for a reported bathroom fire.
“We had heavy fire on the second floor, extending into the third floor, on the 10 South Chestnut side,” McAdoo Fire Chief Robert Leshko said.
He said “significant hoarding conditions” on the upper floors of 10 South Chestnut Street hampered firefighting efforts.
A neighboring home at 8 South Chestnut Street was also damaged.
Multiple alarms were called for manpower as firefighters also contended with temperatures near 80°F, bringing crews from across southern Luzerne and northern Schuylkill and Carbon counties to the scene.
“Guys were getting spent trying to pull some walls and do some overhaul,” Leshko said. “Rather than put anybody in a dangerous situation, we just called for more manpower.”
Crews responding along with McAdoo included Mahanoy City, Hazleton, Hazle Township, Weatherly, Beaver Meadows, Nesquehoning, Tamaqua, Hometown, and more.
A rehab unit from the Lehigh and Lausanne Fire Company was also called along with Lehigh Valley EMS.
Leshko said a State Police fire marshal is investigating the cause.
Three people were displaced from 10 South Chestnut, as was one person from 8 South Chestnut.
No injuries were reported in the incident, though two cats perished.
The fire was the second in the Carbon County community in as many months.
