New sewer plant could go out for bid in January
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah’s new sewer plant is continuing to wade through regulatory red tape, but it’s getting closer to construction.
Chris McCoach, of Alfred Benesch & Co., engineer for the Shenandoah Municipal Sewer Authority, provided the update at the authority’s regular meeting on Dec. 4.
He said that results from borings along the highway were received and a new retaining wall has been designed.
“We’ve just got to finalize the plans and then we’re going to send them to USDA for their final approval,” McCoach said. “Hopefully we’re looking at maybe a January bid date.”
The planned sewer plant, which will replace the borough’s aging plant from the 1970s, has been wading through red tape since 2018.
In other business, the authority approved purchasing wear bars at a cost of $6,192 for the current sewer plant.
