New Dollar General opens in Port Carbon
PORT CARBON – There’s another new Dollar General in Schuylkill County.
The Tennessee-based company announced Monday the opening of its new store at 145 Pottsville Street in Port Carbon, on the way out of town towards Mechanicsville.
About six to 10 people are expected to be employed at the store, which offers household essentials, food, cleaning supplies, and more.

The addition of the Port Carbon store opens the opportunity for schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the store to apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants.
Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $238 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 19.6 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
