National Pierogy Day celebration, flag raising set for Oct. 8
SHENANDOAH – It’s October, and that means National Pierogy Day is coming up!
One of Shenandoah’s largest employers, Ateeco, Inc., makers of Mrs. T’s Pierogies, has celebrated National Pierogy Day each October since 2008, on or near Oct. 8 each year.
Oct. 8, the company says, is the day founder Ted Twardzik made his first sale to the Capitol Food Store in downtown Shenandoah.
The celebration includes a flag raising at Shenandoah Borough Hall at 10am Oct. 8 and gifts will be given to the first 25 people who attend.
There is also a national giveaway ongoing on Instagram in honor of National Pierogy Day.
It began Tuesday through their Instagram account, @mrstspierogies, where people have a chance to win pierogy-inspired gear, including fuzzy socks, a robe, and more.
“Mrs. T’s Pierogies created National Pierogy Day sixteen years ago as a way to celebrate the joy and delicious taste pierogies bring to mealtime,” said Alyssa Panzarella, Director of Marketing, Mrs. T’s Pierogies. “As the days get shorter and temperatures take a dip, we’re thrilled to help usher in cozy season and give our fans the ultimate accessories so they can snuggle up and enjoy their favorite pasta pockets stuffed with the stuff they love.”
