Mt. Carmel man facing federal drug charges

MOUNT CARMEL – A man from this Northumberland County borough is facing federal drug charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced earlier this week.

Charles Derr, 47, of Mount Carmel, is facing drug trafficking, and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin charges following a grand jury indictment.

U.S. Attorney Gerard Karam said in a media release that the charges were filed for an incident on June 17, and the federal government is seeking criminal forfeiture of $10,754 recovered that day.

The case was investigated by the FBI, DEA, and PA State Police.

The maximum penalty under federal law for each of these offenses is 20 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
