Mrs. T’s Pierogies in running for ‘Coolest Thing Made in PA’
SHENANDOAH – Is the Coolest Thing Made in PA made right here in Shenandoah?
Our town’s own Mrs. T’s Pierogies are in the running for that title in a bracket-style contest hosted by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry. The pasta pockets are made on the east end by Ateeco, Inc., and the company is the largest mass producer of them in the United States.
Meghan Heim, of Mrs. T’s, told the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce of the contest at Thursday morning’s meeting.
“Think March Madness, but with businesses,” Heim told the Chamber.
In the first round of the contest, Mrs. T’s faces Menlo Park, California-based Meta’s Metaverse. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the platform is being developed in Pittsburgh.
Voting for the contest is on Twitter, and, as of 4pm Thursday, with 734 votes, Mrs. T’s routed the product of Facebook’s parent company, 95% to 5%.
“I don’t think Mark Zuckerberg caught on to the contest,” Heim said, joking.
Thirty-two businesses from across the Commonwealth are in the contest, including Pottsville’s Yuengling lager.
Round One voting ends tomorrow. Round Two is from March 21-24. Barring an incredible comeback, Mrs. T’s will face Harley-Davidson Motorcycles or Pennsylvania-made steel. Harley has a plant in York.
Yuengling is facing Pittsburgh’s Wabtec Locomotives. As of 4pm, Yuengling was leading 84% to 16% with 664 votes cast.
The beer brewer would face either PPG Paints and Coatings, Pittsburgh, or UTZ Potato Chips, Hanover, in round two.
