Motorcycle crash kills one on Locust Mountain

MAHANOY TOWNSHIP – A motorcycle crash atop Locust Mountain in Mahanoy Township claimed the life of a Mahanoy City man Friday evening, closing Route 339 between Mahanoy City and Brandonville for hours.

Emergency crews from Mahanoy City, Mahanoy Township, and Shenandoah were called to the area of 266 Brandonville Road, Route 339, around 6:45pm for reports of a vehicle accident.

Crews arrived to find a motorcycle accident and a man, Jeremy Polizzi, 39, of Mahanoy City, unconscious. Paramedics from Shenandoah Ambulance attempted to revive and treat Polizzi at the scene upon arrival, though he passed away at the scene.

A Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner was brought to the scene, and Route 339 was closed from Mahanoy City to Brandonville as Mahanoy Township Police investigated.

According to Mahanoy Township Police Chief Brandon Alexander, Polizzi was travelling towards Brandonville on PA Route 339 when he lost control of the bike in a right-hand corner.

From there, Polizzi crossed into the opposite lane and struck a Volvo head-on.

“He died on impact,” said Alexander.

The road reopened around 9:00pm.

Fire Police from Mahanoy City and Sheppton handled traffic on either side of Route 339, and firefighters from Mahanoy City’s Humane and West End Fire Companies responded to the scene, along with Shenandoah Ambulance, and Mahanoy City Police.
