TURKEY RUN – A Montgomery County man is facing False Identification, DUI, and other charges after an incident in the Turkey Run section of Shenandoah late Tuesday night.
According to Shenandoah Police, officers were dispatched to Cleveland and Furnace Streets for reports of a suspicious vehicle which sat running for over three hours, according to neighbors.
Officers arrived around 11:45pm to find a white Dodge van, sitting running with the headlights on, with a male sitting in the driver’s seat smoking.
Officers approached the vehicle, observing the operator roll the window up, and begin to reach towards the left side of his body. The operator opened the door to speak to officers, who noted an odor of marijuana in the vehicle.
The operator, later identified as Lamel Duffy, 28, of Willow Grove, Montgomery County, stated he was waiting for a friend who needed to get money from a local resident. Officers then advised Duffy he had been sitting for three hours with the vehicle running, and then asked what he had been reaching for. Duffy noted he had no weapons and revealed two marijuana cigarettes in the driver’s door panel, noted they were why he moved.
Officers found a clear bag lying near the van, containing the tobacco from cigars and their wrappers, which Duffy noted was from the van.
Duffy provided officers with a New York driver’s license, his brother’s, which was suspended. When told by officers the license was suspended, he appeared surprised, according to police, and was unable to provide information regarding the arrest record or social security number for the license he provided.
Officers then told Duffy he was being detained for providing false information, and would be taken to the State Police barracks for a live scan. Duffy then provided his true identity, which was confirmed by the live scan.
Duffy was requested to submit to a blood test, which he refused, though admitted to smoking marijuana.
Duffy faces charges of Driving Under the Influence, DUI with a suspended license, False Reports to Law Enforcement, False Identification to Law Enforcement, Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Scattering Rubbish, and other offenses.
