SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Valley High School’s auditorium played host to a tribute to two native sons of the borough on Friday.
The M&J Big Band, led by Shenandoah Valley band director John Shoener, honored the Dorsey Brothers, Tommy and Jimmy, natives of Shenandoah and band leaders in the big band era.
The concert, originally scheduled to be held at the Damato Post’s Veterans Memorial Garden, whose mural includes a tribute to the Dorsey’s, was moved indoors with the threat of thunderstorms.
Roughly a hundred attendees watched the concert, which began at 7:00pm.
The band performed Tommy Dorsey’s “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” as well as other numbers from the 1940s Big Band era, such as “Route 66.”
