McAdoo receives $600k to relocate storm water line downtown
McADOO – The northernmost borough in the county is receiving nearly $600,000 to relocate a storm water line from under a parking lot and a restaurant, State Senator David G. Argall announced Wednesday.
The $597,300 grant was awarded through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Development Block Grant program and will go towards relocating a storm water line for Celebration Creek.
The water line and culvert run under a parking lot and a restaurant at Kennedy and Sherman before connecting to a culvert under Kennedy Drive. The grant will help relocate the line from under the restaurant to under Sherman Street.
“This grant will ensure that McAdoo Borough’s water and sewage facilities are up to code and functioning properly,” said State Rep. Jerry Knowles. “Maintaining these facilities throughout the county can be very costly and this grant will help facilitate the needed repairs. This is another example of federal and state money coming back to Schuylkill County to help fund local projects.”
“I’m pleased that McAdoo Borough received this desperately needed grant,” said Argall. “This project will go a long way towards preventing future flooding in the area and will help protect the health and safety of local residents in this area.”
“The Commissioners fully support this project as it is a continuation of the McAdoo CDBG project recently completed,” said Gary Bender; an administrator for Schuylkill County. “The county will administer these grant funds and look forward to working with the McAdoo Borough Council for a successful project completion.”
