Maryland men transported after I-81 crash
DELANO – Two men from Maryland were taken to a Hazleton hospital after a vehicle accident in a snow squall on I-81 yesterday morning.
State Police at Frackville said the crash happened around 7:30am when Ramirez Perez, 60, of Lanham, Maryland, was headed north on I-81 in the right travel lane, near mile marker 134.2, in a 2020 Chevy Silverado.
Perez lost control on the snow covered roadway resulting from a sudden snow squall, leaving the roadway and striking an embankment on the west berm.
The truck’s left front struck the embankment, and the vehicle spun, coming to a rest facing southeast in the left lane.
Traffic was down to one lane as a result, while the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Perez and passenger Denis Aleman, 26, of Silver Springs, Maryland, were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for treatment of suspected minor injuries, troopers said.
Assisting at the scene were Delano Township firefighters and Ryan Township EMS.
