Man rescued from house fire dies at hospital

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – West Hazleton firefighters stand by as smoke covers a home at 102 Falls Street in Rock Glen.
ROCK GLEN – A Rock Glen man, rescued from his burning home by his grandson and bystanders, succumbed to his injuries Wednesday at a Lehigh County Hospital.
Arthur Dice Sr., 76, was rescued from his home at 102 Falls Street in the Black Creek Township village around 5:30pm Tuesday. The home was engulfed in flames as the first fire crews arrived.
Dice lived alone and was helped by his grandson and bystanders, as well as by a passing emergency medical technician.
He was taken by ambulance first to the Nuremberg Park where a medical helicopter was supposed to land. Snow squalls forced the flight’s cancellation, so he was taken by ground to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township, near Allentown, where he later died.
His home was a total loss and the cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
