Man ejected in downtown Mahanoy rollover
MAHANOY CITY – One man was taken to Geisinger Medical Center by ambulance after he was thrown from his crossover in downtown Mahanoy City Wednesday morning.
The crash happened just before 10:00am outside the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 15 West Centre Street.
Police said a Ford Edge was travelling eastbound on Centre Street, Route 54, “at a high rate of speed,” according to witnesses, and had been passing cars in a no-passing zone as far west as Blaschak’s Coal Corp.
Just east of Locust Street, police said the Edge struck a parked Ford Explorer on the north side of the street, pushing it onto the sidewalk and nearly into a light post, and clipped two other parked vehicles before rolling over.
The vehicle came to a rest on its wheels facing east.
As the car rolled, the driver — the only occupant in the Edge — was ejected.
Four vehicles — one moving and three parked on the north side of Centre Street — were involved in the crash.
The driver of the Edge, who was not identified, was the only person involved in the crash. He was treated at the scene by Shenandoah and Frackville Ambulance personnel and transported by ground to Geisinger Medical Center in Montour County, as air medical flights were precluded by foggy and misty weather.
Along with Mahanoy City Police and Shenandoah and Frackville Ambulance, first responders from Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Co. and Mahanoy Township Police responded to the scene.
Steve’s Towing towed two of the vehicles from the scene.
