Man arrested, charged with homicide in Sheppton shooting

SHEPPTON – A man is in Schuylkill County Prison, accused of killing another in this East Union Township village.

John Francis Gustites, 67, is charged with 3rd Degree Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Simple Assault.

State Police at Frackville were called around 8pm Saturday to assist East Union Township Police on a death investigation. The death occurred in the early morning hours Saturday at a home at 31 Franklin Street.

The Troop L Major Case Team investigated well past midnight and Gustites was arrested and arraigned by an on call magistrate.

East Union Township Police Chief Chris Dimmick said he was taken into custody shortly after his arrival on scene.

The chief said the death occurred around 8 or 9am.

“The East Union Township Police department extends their appreciation to the State Police for their support and hard work in this investigation,” Dimmick said. “This appears to be an isolated incident and the East Union Township Police ensure the community is safe.”

State Police were assisted by East Union Township Police, Shenandoah Police, Frackville Police, and Mahanoy City Police.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
