Man accused of stealing $9k in merchandise, including more than 600 cigars, from Luzerne Co. workplace

DRUMS – A Scranton man is accused of stealing more than $9,000 of cigars and more while he worked at a cigar shop and pub in the Conyngham Valley.

Daniel T. Brennan, 61, of Scranton, was arrested Tuesday on felony retail theft and receiving stolen property charges.

Butler Township Police in Luzerne County accused Brennan of swiping $9,055 in cigars, accessories, and company apparel. In total, more than 600 cigars were removed from the store on five separate occasions in July and August, police alleged.

Brennan had worked there for a short time when police say he was caught on surveillance video concealing cigars in his personal travel case.

He was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Daniel O’Donnell and bail was set at $20,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 27.
