Man accused of setting brush fires near town arrested
SHENANDOAH – John Banaszewski, wanted for setting several brush fires northeast of Shenandoah, was taken into custody by borough police tonight.
Shenandoah Police said Banaszewski, 43, of Shenandoah, was seen at Lloyd and Main Streets in town around 8:30pm tonight.
He was wanted by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in connection to several arson fires in May.
Banaszewski was taken into custody without incident and arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David Plachko and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $50,000 10% bail.
He was wanted on 18 felony counts of arson filed by Jacob Novitsky, a fire investigator with the Weiser State Forest District.
