RINGTOWN – Firefighters were met with smoke and ice after a heater malfunctioned and a water pipe burst at Jeld-Wen here Monday.

Crews were called to the window manufacturer on the west side of town around 5pm for an automatic fire alarm.

Ringtown Valley Fire Chief Joseph Gilbert said firefighters were met with a smoke condition in the lobby.

The crew of a ladder truck from Shenandoah found the cause to be one of the rooftop heaters that make up the buildings HVAC system.

The smoke condition, he said, tripped a fire alarm in the front vestibule of the building. Sprinklers were tripped as well, and a water pipe burst at the front door, creating a waterfall at the entrance.

No injuries were reported, no further damage was reported, apart from water damage in the vestibule and the damaged heater.
