Mahanoy man arrested for downtown armed robbery

SHENANDOAH – A Mahanoy City man is in Schuylkill County Prison after borough police say he robbed a woman at gunpoint just after midnight Wednesday.

Police said a woman was leaving Mulligan’s Bar in the 300 block of South Main Street around 12:30am when a man, Takiem Foat, 28, of the 600 block of East Centre Street, Mahanoy City, swiped her purse while aiming a gun at her head.

Foat fled the area, and was caught two hours later, around 2:17am, on Route 54 in Mahanoy Township, after an off-duty police officer spotted him.

The firearm was not recovered, police said.

Foat was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $100,000 cash bail.

He is facing charges of Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and related charges
