Mahanoy declines lone bid for McCann building

MAHANOY CITY – The borough of Mahanoy City is evaluating its options for the former McCann School of Business and Technology on Main Street, after it declined the lone bid to purchase the campus.

The borough opened the bid, from Mark Detofsky, of Mahanoy City, offering $15,000 for the campus, stretching from Pine to Mahanoy on Main Street.

Council President Tom McCabe expressed dissatisfaction with the price.

“Personally, my feeling is, before I sell it for $15,000, we’ll just tear it down and not have to worry about buying it from the guy when it’s falling down,” McCabe said.

Council approved declining the bid, and tabled the matter pending consultation with the borough solicitor to see what the next step may be.

“I would like to think about getting a realtor and see what they can do, but we have to check with Eric [Lieberman, solictor] first,” McCabe said.
