Mahanoy City Police detain, arrest three illegal immigrants in traffic stop

MAHANOY CITY – Mahanoy City Police officers arrested three illegal immigrants in a midday traffic stop, including one who had been deported four times prior.
According to police, Patrolman Jennifer Dempsey initiated a traffic stop at North Main and East Vine Streets in the borough around 10:20am Thursday.
During the traffic stop, three vehicle occupants were detained upon identification, when the trio’s immigration status was discovered.
The three detained occupants were Crystian Cruz-Chavarria, 24, Leticia Chagolla-Escobedo, 38, and Alejandro Salmeron-Fuentos, 46.
According to police, Salmeron-Fuentes had been deported four times previously, and had an active warrant for his arrest.
All three individuals were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
